It is increasingly clear that in order to sustain the field of Jewish Renewal in Israel, the scope of philanthropic support must be expanded. While organizations in the field are working tirelessly to identify new philanthropic partners for their initiatives, philanthropists also need to raise interest in the field at large. AVI CHAI and others have several roles to play: to encourage Israeli philanthropy, enlarge the scope of donors who invest in the field, build healthy partnerships with existing foundations and federations already involved, and share and study issues that are relevant to the field as a whole.
Two initiatives that are helping to achieve these goals:
• Pseifas Matching Grant Programs — This initiative, implemented twice in recent years with the support of the UJA Federation of New York, seeks to increase the number of Israeli donors involved in Jewish Renewal in Israel by offering matching grants. Pseifas matched donations to organizations at a one-to-one ratio; the latest round also involved several past donors who doubled their previous giving.
• Forum of Foundations and Federations Engaged in Jewish Identity and Education—Comprising foundations and federations that meet up to several times per year, the forum is an opportunity to discuss joint interests and forge effective partnerships to support common programs.
We invite you to learn, study, exchange ideas, and join us in strengthening the field and the future of the Israeli state.
