A Challenge Grant for Israeli Judaism
for Projects Funded by AVI CHAI Israel
Background
Over the past twenty years, pluralistic Jewish life in Israel – the phenomenon of "Israeli Judaism" – has engaged and inspired a growing circle of Israeli Jews. A wide range of organizations and programs now offers Israelis opportunities to study Jewish texts, experience diverse Jewish traditions, and explore their identity as Israelis and Jews. Activities in this field are helping to foster a renaissance of Jewish cultural life in the State of Israel – which is diverse, rich in content, and relevant to the personal and social issues that concern contemporary Israeli Jews and that bind them to the Jewish People.
Before AVI CHAI’s closing in 2020, the Foundation is again offering donors an opportunity to develop and strengthen Israeli Jewish life by leveraging their contributions to AVI CHAI grantees.
Through Pseifas 3.0, AVI CHAI seeks to encourage its grantee organizations to expand their donor base and enhance their capacity to flourish in the coming years, by challenging current AVI CHAI grantees to recruit new donors and/or increase the commitment of existing donors.
The Initiative
Challenge grants will be provided on the basis of a 1:1 matching ratio for donations of no less than NIS 40,000 and no more than NIS 180,000 per donor per year, on condition that the donor commits to an equal (or greater) donation for a second year. Challenge grants are intended for "new" or "veteran" donors as defined below:
· New donor: a donor who gives a first-time contribution to an AVI CHAI grantee organization/program of at least NIS 40,000, and up to NIS 180,000, for a period of two consecutive years beginning no later than 2018;
or
· Veteran donor: a donor who already has contributed to an AVI CHAI grantee organization/program, and doubles (at least) to that grantee organization the highest previous annual donation for a period of two consecutive years, beginning no later than 2018. The increased donation must total at least NIS 40,000 and up to NIS 180,000 per year.
General
· An organization can submit an application for more than one challenge grant.
· Because a limited sum has been allocated for matching grants, AVI CHAI makes no commitment to fully or partially match every donation that meets Pseifas 3.0's criteria. Decisions will be made at the full discretion of AVI CHAI Israel, in keeping with the challenge grant’s goals and budget.
· Note that this process is not a request for proposals and is not subject to any laws associated with requests for proposals. AVI CHAI Israel maintains its right to modify dates and conditions, to make matching grant decisions, and generally to manage the process according to its exclusive discretion.
