Eli Silver has been the Executive Director of AVI CHAI Israel since 1995, when he made aliyah from the U.S. with his wife and three children. Prior to AVI CHAI, Eli served for eight years as principal of the Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle, a community K-8 school.
Eli grew up in Detroit, Michigan, received his B.A. in History at the University of Michigan, and earned an M.A. in Educational Policy and Management and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Oregon. His doctoral dissertation was an ethnographic study of cultural transmission in a Jewish day school setting.
In addition to his work with AVI CHAI and time with his family, Eli enjoys biking around Jerusalem, playing basketball on Friday mornings, and reading biographies and histories.
